An Ocala man was arrested recently after his lady friend claimed he grabbed her while she recorded a confrontation between him and her mother on a cell phone.

The victim told Marion County sheriff’s deputies that 18-year-old Pablo Ismael Fernandez was upset because her mother wouldn’t take him to a liquor store to purchase alcohol. She said Fernandez became “very aggressive” with her mother and got in her face, so she started recording the incident on her phone, a sheriff’s office report states.

The victim claimed that when Fernandez realized she was recording him, he “came at her” and grabbed her by the upper torso/neck area and took her to the ground. The victim showed deputies videos of the incident from her phone which corroborated her statements about Fernandez being aggressive with her mother, the report says, adding the victim didn’t have a video of the physical confrontation with Fernandez.

Fernandez admitted to pushing the victim but claimed he did it because she was “in his space.” Deputies reported that the victim’s mother gave a similar account of the incident but didn’t witness the battery on her daughter. She did, however, see her daughter on the ground after the confrontation, the report says, adding that the victim had a had a scratch on her upper left shoulder that she said was from the battery incident.

Fernandez was then placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with domestic battery. His bond also was revoked on previous charges of possession of marijuana over 20 grams, possession and/or use of drug equipment and operating a motor vehicle without a valid license.

Fernandez was being held on no bond on the new charge and $3,500 bond on the previous charges. He is due in court June 9 at 8 a.m., jail records show.
