Ocala Juneteenth Celebration coming to Webb Field

The Ocala Juneteenth Celebration Commission will host a celebration of the Juneteenth holiday at Webb Field later this year.

The celebration will take place on Saturday, June 19, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Webb Field, which is located at 1501 West Silver Springs Boulevard.

The event to celebrate the holiday, which is recognized as the national day to commemorate the abolishment of slavery in the United States, is free and open to attend for all.

Juneteenth was first celebrated in Texas on June 19, 1865 and is aptly named for the combination of “June” and “nineteenth.” It is also known as African American Freedom Day or Emancipation Day.
