Ocala Center 6 slated to reopen June 7

Ocala Center 6 is slated to reopen on June 7.

The theater, which has been closed since March 2020 on account of the COVID-19 pandemic, posted the information on their marquee recently.

In late May, the theater announced that it had plans to reopen its doors for the summer.

Across town, Regal Hollywood & IMAX reopened their doors in May.

Marion Theatre, which is located in downtown Ocala, has been open and has played hosts to variety of special events. And Epic Theaters, which is located at the Market at Heathbrook, has been playing new movies in all of its theaters across the country.

Despite other theaters opening up as early as June 2020, Ocala Center 6 chose to stay closed throughout the year. Social media posts from the company indicated that the decision to remain closed was due to Hollywood not producing additional movies.

According to BoxOfficeMojo.com, theaters played 454 new movies during 2020, a 20-year low and a drop of over 50% from the previous year (911). Total revenue fell from $11.3 billion in 2019 to $2.1 billion in 2020, an 81% decrease. This year, over 170 new films have been released and generated just over $530 million.
