Construction of the Reilly Arts Center’s expansion has been taking shape quickly.
The organization, which poured slabs for the new building just over a month ago, has seen the site transform into what will eventually be a new theater.
Located at 500 NE 9th Street, the construction will include the creation of a new Black Box Theatre and lobby. Black box theaters are a type of performance space popularized in smaller communities.
The Black Box Theatre will ideally play host to a variety of show types, including stand-up comedy, intimate music shows, theatre in the round, and multi-media events. The venue will even be capable of hosting banquets, receptions, and community events.
According to the organization’s website, the expansion is 15,590 square feet and will also include the addition of teaching facilities in the form of multiple studio and lesson rooms.
