New fish market joins slate of new businesses opening doors all over Ocala

A new fish market has opened a location in a popular east Ocala shopping plaza, joining a slate of new businesses opening their doors all across Ocala.

The Catch of The Day Fish Market opened the new retail location in the Ocala Center shopping plaza. The market, which is in the same plaza as Brick City Flowers, Lorito’s Italian Kitchen, and Earthfare, is situated at 1745 East Silver Springs Boulevard.

The addition comes at a time when new businesses, commercial, and residential businesses are sprouting up across Ocala.

The Ocala City Council recently approved the construction of 100+ apartments to service the downtown area. At least four other restaurants, including District Kitchen & Bar and Symmetry Cafe, hope to renovate historic locations downtown.

Cantina, which is owned and operated by the owners that opened Loft and Anti-Monopoly Drug Store speak easy last year, hopes to open the doors on its downtown location later this year.

Mellow Mushroom, which took over the building formerly operated by Brother’s Keeper Thrift Store, has finished demolition of the old building and is currently constructing their new downtown restaurant.

Not all types of businesses have been welcomed into Ocala by the city council and community, however.

Recently, the Ocala City Council denied a local liquor store its permit recently after an outcry from residents in west Ocala who were opposed to the store.
