New pirate-themed bar will mark 14th bar in Downtown Ocala

A new pirate-themed bar is currently under construction in Downtown Ocala, marking the city’s fourteenth such business in that area.

Mutiny, which will be located at 46 S Magnolia, hopes to open the doors on its new location next to its sister bar, Tipsy Skipper, later this year. The locations, which are owned and operated by the same group, will knock down the wall between to operate both together.

The new business joins a slate of other bars that have opened in Downtown Ocala over the past two years. In the beginning of 2020, Morevino wine bar replaced the shuttered Tavern on the Square. The Tipsy Skipper opened its doors, closed, and reopened its doors in 2020 after uncertainty throughout the pandemic. And two speakeasies opened a block away from each other: Anti-Monopoly Drug Store and Thirsty Cobbler.

Last summer, the Loft opened a night club above The Lodge, with both connected to the Anti-Monopoly Drug Store speakeasy.

In 2019, Big Hammock Brewery replaced the location formerly occupied by Lunchbox. That October, Black Sheep on Broadway replaced the old Fox Den Tavern. In the same month, Bank Street Patio Bar opened its new location at the former Bank of America location.

In total, Downtown Ocala currently has over a dozen businesses that primarily identify themselves as bars, with two more on the way.

Cantina, a Tex Mex Tequila Bar, is hoping to open its doors later this year. Last month, District Kitchen and Bar announced its plans to replace the shuttered Pi on Broadway.
