An Ocala man and woman were arrested after carjacking a car from a man pumping air at a gas station, purposely running into a sheriff’s patrol car, and leading the police on a car chase.
On June 10, A Marion County Sheriff’s robbery detective responded to the Kwik King gas station located at 5080 NW 44th Avenue in reference to a carjacking.
Patrol deputies located the stolen vehicle and initiated a vehicle pursuit.
Before deputies arrived at the gas station, the detective was informed by a Marion County Sheriff’s deputy that the victim was located at his home and conducted a phone interview, according to the sheriff’s report.
The victim stated he was filling up the spare tire at the air pump when he was approached by 18-year-old Tanya Denson. The victim claimed Denson began asking him questions about nearby gas stations that might be cheaper. As he was speaking with Denson, the victim claims a black male, later identified as Milad Boroojeni, approached the Ford Fusion and put his hand on the door handle. The victim claimed when he told Boroojeni that the Ford was his car, Boroojeni lifted his shirt, showed his waistband and then told the victim that it was his car now.
The sheriff communications center received a phone call from the owner of the Ford Fusion, who reported he had a tracking device on the vehicle. The vehicle was tracked to the Pilot Travel Center located at 2020 SW HWY 484.
Deputies responded to the location where Boroojeni intentionally drove into a patrol cruiser before exiting the vehicle and fleeing on foot.
He was ultimately apprehended near the Pilot parking lot by deputies, according to the report.
Another vehicle pursuit was initiated with Denson driving the stolen vehicle. Denson was traveling at 80-mph in a 45-mph zone and reported driving through stop signs. Denson struck a citizen’s vehicle during the pursuit and left the scene.
The pursuit ultimately came to a stop near 5000 block on SE 135th street and Denson was taken into custody, the report stated.
A Marion County Sheriff’s video recording shows the chase on June 10:
Surveillance footage from the Kwik King gas station confirmed the events, the report stated.
Boroojeni and Denson both said they did not want to speak with law enforcement and were transported to the Marion County Jail.
According to the report, a computer check revealed Boroojeni has an extensive criminal history including charges for grand theft, burglary and robbery. The computer check also revealed Denson was involved in another case from Cape Coral Police department where she and Boroojeni stole a vehicle.
Denson was booked on June 10 with a bond set at $75,000.
She was charged with aggravated fleeing and principal to carjacking with a firearm or weapon. A court date is set for July 13 at 9 a.m., jail records show.
