Ocala man arrested after woman reports he attacked her while intoxicated

An Ocala man was charged with domestic battery after a brawl escalated between him, a victim and a juvenile daughter.

On June 20 a victim claimed she arrived home with 30-year-old Jose Cervantes and he was under the influence of alcohol. She claimed he was upset about not being able to see someone. The victim says Cervantes slapped her in the face, knocking her to the ground, according to the sheriff’s report.

The victim claims Cervantes then took the car keys and hit her again in the face. The victim says her juvenile daughter intervened to see what was going on and the car keys hit the juvenile on her chest, the report stated. The victim also claims Cervantes put his hand around her neck during the brawl.

A Marion County Sheriff’s officer observed several scratches to the victim and slight bleeding, according to the report.

The officer located Cervantes and observed the windshield to the vehicle was broken. Cervantes refused to speak to law enforcement, according to the report.

Cervantes was arrested and transported to the Marion County Jail with a bond set at $2,500. He was released on bond on June 22. He was charged with domestic battery by strangulation, child abuse and damage of property. A court date is set for July 27 at 9 a.m., jail records show.
