Bank Street Patio Bar reopens doors, blames ‘insect issue’ for closure

Bank Street Patio Bar has reopened its doors after multiple health inspection failures left it shuttered this past weekend.

The bar, which failed its initial health inspection on Thursday, June 24, attributed the closure on social media to an “insect issue.”

“We apologize for being closed over the weekend! We had an insect issue in the outside bar that has been remedied,” reads a post on the company’s Facebook page.

The post goes on to explain that the patio bar faces “challenges” from time to time on account of its outdoor layout.

“As always, our kitchen is exceptional and there was no problems anywhere inside,” continues the post.

The bar was forced to close after a food health inspector with the Department of Business and Professional Regulation found 20 violations, including multiple high priority violations. Those violations included rodent activity and small flying insects in multiple areas.

After the first failed inspection, upon second visit the health inspector noticed that a “closed” DBPR sign had been scratched from the business’s gate.

The bar was inspected a total of five times, failing each instance on account of roach and insect activity. It remained closed through the weekend.

Bank Street Patio Bar is one of over a half-dozen bars and clubs that have opened in the downtown Ocala area in the past two years.
