Residents send letters, comments in support of Costco in Ocala

Ocala-News.com received dozens of letters and comments in support of Costco coming to Ocala.

Kay Travis says the city has been in need of a Costco for years.

“The last thing we need is another gas station or Circle K. You have to travel, to actually get to Costco,” said Travis. Travis says that in her opinion, Ocala is growing at a rate that could “sustain a successful Costco.”

Currently, there are 28 Costco locations around the state of Florida. The locations nearest to Ocala are in Wesley Chapel and Orlando.

Sandra Carter, who lives has lived off S.R. 200 for the past five years, says that although there are two Publix, two Walmarts, and an Aldi in an area that is still underserved. She says the Sam’s Club on S.R. 200 is always “congested” and difficult to get in and out of.

“I’m a Sam’s Club member but would appreciate Costco. I believe Costco would be more beneficial for our overall growth,” says Ocala resident Linda Golden in a letter to the editor. Golden additionally expressed an interest in Kroger’s, a grocery chain with roots in the midwest.

“Costco is amazing. I shopped there up north for years. None of the other warehouse stores can compare in quality, customer service, and price value,” says Ocala resident Martha Guzowski.
