Belleview man sentenced to life in prison for murder of Vietnam veteran, retired postmaster

A Belleview man was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of a Vietnam veteran and retired postmaster who was shot while in bed.

David Joseph Dillberg was convicted for the July 2019 murder of Richard Edward Peters after a 3-day trial earlier this year. After being found guilty, Fifth Circuit Court Judge Steven Rodgers sentenced Dillberg to life in prison just minutes after the verdict was announced.

Peters, who was a retired postmaster and a veteran of the Vietnam War, was shot in the head multiple times while he was in bed.

Dillberg, Chase Robert Freeman, and Christopher Lee Sesler were arrested in connection with the murder.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Amy Berndt and Rich Buxman.
