Ocala man sentenced to 30 years for robbery at Marion Oaks Dollar General

An Ocala man will spend the next 30 years behind bars after he was convicted of robbing a Dollar General in Marion Oaks.

Rolando Rodney, who was found guilty of robbing the Dollar General store located at 896 Marion Oaks Manor, was sentenced earlier this year by Fifth Circuit Court Judge Lisa Herndon.

Rodney, who was arrested in December 2018, has spent the better part of two years behind bars and was found guilty by a jury in April of this year. He was sentenced in June.

In November 2018, Rodney entered the Dollar General Store wearing a mask. While armed with a firearm, Rodney demanded money from Dollar General employees while pointing the gun at them. After he collected the cash in a backpack, he fled on foot.

At trial, a six-member jury found Rodney guilty of robbery with a firearm while masked and possession of a firearm with a serial number altered or removed. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison and must pay restitution.

Assistant State Attorney Marissa Meyer prosecuted the case.
