A popular Ocala axe throwing location is working on a new spot in the Paddock Mall.
Firehouse Urban Axe Throwing, which currently operates a location at 1043 NE 14th Street, recently received approval for the sale of beer and wine on the premises during the Ocala City Council regular meeting on Tuesday, July 6.
According to city records, the company hopes to have both inside and outside seating at Unit 199A in the mall, which was formerly occupied by a radio station.
“I’ve been to their current location and it’s a blast. It is fun. No limbs were lost,” joked Ocala City Councilman Matthew Wardell during the meeting.
A recent phenomenon that has sprouted roots all across the country, axe throwing has become popular in the sunshine state and southeast in the past few years. The company’s Ocala location has seen a steady flow of local residents, business owners, nonprofits and other groups looking for a different type of networking event.
“Bowling and darts had their day, now it’s time for an upgrade,” reads the Firehouse Urban Axe Throwing Facebook page.
