A 24-year-old registered sex offender who eluded police for a month was arrested for stealing a Ocala business’s truck and leaving it on the side of the road with multiple items stolen or missing.
On June 7, Marion County Sheriff deputies responded to 15601 S Highway 475 in reference to a stolen vehicle.
The victim claimed his company work truck valued at $4,500 was stolen. The victim said he had tools for his business in the vehicle valued at $200 each, according to the sheriff’s report.
The victim said the last time he had seen the truck was on June 5 in the garage. The victim said when he arrived at work on June 7, the garage was open and the truck was gone, the report states.
On June 11, a deputy responded to the 15500 Block of NE 218th Court to an anonymous tip from someone saying there was a suspicious red Dodge pickup parked at the location. The truck was found stuck in sand, the report states.
The passenger side window was reported shattered along with scratches on all body panels. The front bumper and headlights were smashed and the tools were no longer in the truck. The radio was also removed.
On June 14, the deputy received information that the suspect in the robbery was at a Circle K gas station and still photos of the suspect were posted on Facebook.
On July 7, 24-year-old Dallas Cox was arrested by the Marion County Sheriff’s office on multiple charges. Cox was identified through photos that were captured at a local Circle K gas station and posted through Facebook in June.
After he was arrested, Cox was discovered to be a registered sexual offender, the report states.
Cox was transported to the Marion County Jail with a bond set at $12,000. He faces more than five charges including resisting an officer and grand theft of a motor vehicle. A court date is set for August 10 at 9 a.m., jail records show.
