George Martin Gilmore, 90, of Ocala, FL, passed away on July 15, 2021, in Ocala, FL.
George was born and raised in Harlem, The Bronx, NY to Thomas J. and Mary (Brins) Gilmore on October 16, 1930, the youngest of five siblings. He graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School for Boys in 1949. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and is a Korean War veteran. George proudly served as a firefighter in New York City (FDNY) for 30 years, from 1957-1987. He spent his retirement years in Ocala, FL. George enjoyed bowling, golf, dancing, travelling and spending time with family and friends. An active member and former president of the Oak Run Singles Club, George was often considered the “life of the party”! As a devout Catholic, he was an active member of Queen of Peace R.C. Church in Ocala.
George is survived by his daughters Maureen Gilmore Malone (Bernard Malone Jr) and Susan Gilmore DiBlasio (Stephen DiBlasio). He has six adoring grandchildren (Bernie III, Britney and Bryan Malone and Michelle, Matthew and Meghan DiBlasio) as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Eileen Mary Reilly Gilmore, and second wife Dorothy Brangan Gilmore. George will also be reunited in eternal peace with his parents and siblings Francis (Marie) Gilmore, Rosemary (John) Brophy, Thomas (Melba) Gilmore, and Marie (Patrick) Connolly.
Visitation and a prayer service will be held on July 19, 2021 from 2-4pm at Roberts Downtown Chapel, 606 SW 2nd Avenue, Ocala, FL. Following cremation, a Catholic mass will take place at a later date on Long Island, NY. Burial will be arranged at Calverton National Cemetery on Long Island.
