Reddick resident shares thoughts on COVID-19 vaccine

To the Editor:

Florida recently had 16,000 new Covid cases in one day. It is projected that daily U.S. COVID deaths could triple by October with the Delta variant surge. So what is so difficult to understand? It looks like we are headed for deep trouble. Yet a significant percentage of the population refuses to vaccinate or mask up. The Delta variant is 1000 times more contagious than regular Covid.

Kay Ivey, Alabama’s Republican governor, said “it’s time to start blaming the unvaccinated folks” for the continued hospitalizations and deaths…” Almost 100% of the new hospitalizations are with unvaccinated folks. And the deaths are certainly occurring with unvaccinated folks.”

I’ve always been a bit of a coward about vaccinations. Vaccinations weren’t required when I went to school so it was as an adult that I braved getting the Salk Polio Vaccine when it became available. It was the right thing to do for myself and the community. When Covid vaccine became available, I got the shots because it was the right thing to do for myself and the community. And I had zero side effects.

Most of our political leaders got the Covid vaccine as soon as it became available although some may not have publicized the fact. Trump himself was vaccinated early on and also had some very new Covid treatments when he was sick. Treatments that were not yet approved and required permission being pushed through.

I knew a fellow who got Covid one day and was dead the next. A relative was in hospital for months and Covid killed all her teeth roots so now she needs all her teeth pulled out. Another fellow was in hospital for a year and needed a double lung replacement.
We are in the 4th wave of Covid. How many times will we feed it to go around more?
