Ocala, Marion transportation officials seeking public input on ‘Congestion Management Plan’

Officials from the Ocala Marion Transportation Planning Organization are seeking public input on the county’s congestion woes.

The Congestion Management Plan (CMP) “outlines a formalized approach to identify traffic congestion issues along the roadways and intersections of Marion County,” according to the Ocala Marion TPO.

Among other goals, the plan seeks to promote travel choices that are multimodal and accessible, provide efficient transportation that promotes economic development, and ensure the county’s transportation needs are met.

The report indicates that approximately 16% of vehicle-miles of travel on the CMP network are considered congested, while approximately 38% are expected to be congested by 2026.

Around 85% of the growth in congested vehicle-miles is expected to be on I-75.

The roadway network includes all existing roadways and roads with construction funded in the next five years (known as the existing-plus-committed (E+C) network).

That network and all roadway projects through 2026 are illustrated in the following chart from the organization:

The group will develop performance measures to monitor the effectiveness of the transportation system, as well as address the existing conditions for a multi-modal transportation network.

Those measures will include safety, roadway capacity, and roadway reliability, among others. You can read the full, 76-page report by visiting the Ocala Marion TPO Congestion Management Plan draft page.
