College of Central Florida forgives over $300,000 in student debt

The College of Central Florida has forgiven $333,351 in student debt to provide financial relief to 438 students enrolled in recent years.

According to a release from the college, institutional dollars from the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund were allocated to provide students a clean slate in their educational pursuits. In addition, the college has distributed more than $6 million in HEERF directly to students during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to college officials.

“The College of Central Florida is committed to helping students reach their educational goals, and in a year when many students and their families have experienced unusual financial stress, the debt forgiveness is a unique opportunity to help keep our students on track with their education,” said Dr. Jim Henningsen, president of the college.

“Money should never be a barrier to higher education, and we are fortunate that we can support our students in this way,” added Henningsen.

The cost for in-state associate level courses at CF is $112.92 per credit hour, which ranks it among the top one percent of four-year colleges for affordability, according to its website.
