Former neighbor breaks into home and steals cigarettes

A 52-year-old Umatilla woman is being charged with burglary of an unoccupied dwelling and petit theft after allegedly breaking into her former neighbor’s home and stealing cigarettes and soda.

On August 16, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a resident burglary near SE Highway 450.

The victim claims her house was burglarized by 52-year-old Vama Marie Buchanan. The victim claims Buchanan entered her home by lifting a sliding glass window built in the front door and then unlocking the front door, according to the report.

The victim says while Buchanan was inside the home, she stole cans of Dr. Pepper soda and two packs of cigarettes, according to the report.

The victim provided her in-home security footage and the video shows Buchanan walking around the home and placing items in a bag. The victim was able to identify Buchanan to be her previous neighbor, the report revealed.

Buchanan was arrested and transported to the Marion County Jail with a bond set at $10,500. She is charged with burglary and petit
