Eastbound lanes were blocked this afternoon after a car accident downed a set of power lines along East Silver Springs Boulevard.
The Ocala Police Department, Ocala Fire Rescue, Marion County Fire Rescue, and Ocala Electric Utility all responded to a scene of a motor vehicle accident this afternoon around 2 p.m.
According to Ocala Fire Rescue, the service dispatched Engine 5, Rescue 2, and Battalion Chief 22 to the 4600 block of East Silver Springs Boulevard and upon arrival, units encountered a concrete power pole laying over the front of a sedan with an engine compartment fire.
The driver of the vehicle was still inside, according to OFR.
“Utilizing extrication equipment, crews created an opening to remove the driver from the vehicle,” reads a post from OFR’s social media.
The driver was trauma alerted to hospital.
Rescue crews worked on patient assessment while the Engine’s crews extinguished the engine compartment fire.
The roads were reopened after a few hours, according to the Ocala Police Department.
