Ocala man arrested after allegedly threatening neighbor with knife

An Ocala man was arrested after allegedly demanding car keys from his neighbor and threatening him with a knife.

On Tuesday, August 24, a Marion County Sheriff’s deputy responded to an incident location in reference to a verbal disturbance and possible criminal mischief.

Upon the deputy’s arrival, a resident stated she was inside her home when she heard a loud crash in the street. The resident says when she looked outside her window she observed her neighbor, 31-year-old Michael Irizarry, throwing trash cans around the yard and acting violently. The neighbor says Irizarry grabbed a large log and threw it at her daughter’s car, but caused no damage.

Another victim reported he was at his home walking in his yard when Irizarry approached him with a knife. The victim says Irizarry demanded him to give him the keys to a vehicle and stated if the victim did not, he would kill him, according to the report.

The deputy located Irizarry near SW 49th Avenue. During a pat down for weapons, the deputy located a chrome stiletto style knife with a pearl handle in his pocket.

Irizarry was placed in handcuffs and transported back to the incident location.

Irizarry says he was mad due to failing a driver test and admitted to throwing things around the yard, the report states.

Irizarry admits he did have his knife in hand, but says he likes to play with the knife when he gets angry, according to the report.

Irizarry denied threatening the victim, the report states.

Irizarry was arrested and transported to the Marion County Jail with no set bond. He is charged with aggravated assault and probation violation. A court date is set for September 28 at 9 a.m., jail records show.
