Ocala man arrested on eight counts of possession of child pornography

A 30-year-old Ocala man was arrested by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office after detectives received a tip that he was in possession of digital files containing child pornography.

On Tuesday, August 31, MCSO and Major Crimes detectives made contact with 30-year-old Johnny Algarin after receiving a tip that an individual was in possession of files containing apparent child pornography, according to a social media post from MCSO.

Detectives advised Algarin they had gathered evidence that indicated he had possessed inappropriate, sexually explicit images of children. Detectives obtained possession of Algarin’s electronic devices and a forensic examination revealed eight files containing child pornography.

During an interview, Algarin admitted to viewing the child pornography and said he used a fake name (“Michael Lawson”) in connection with the photos in order to hide them from his wife.

Algarin was arrested and transported to the Marion County Jail. His bond was set at $16,000. He was released after posting it on Wednesday morning.
