Marion County schools report decrease in positive COVID-19 cases, quarantines for second week

Marion County schools reported a decrease in positive COVID-19 cases and quarantines for the second consecutive week.

The weekly COVID-19 report released by Marion County Public Schools shows that a total of 256 students and employees tested positive for COVID-19 from September 11 to September 17, 2021.

According to the report, 949 students and 10 employees were forced to quarantine after having direct contact with those who tested positive.

Over 50 schools and departments reported positive cases during the week, including 26 elementary schools.

The past two weeks show a decline in overall positive cases and quarantines, which peaked during the first two weeks of school.

Last week, 367 positive cases and 1,161 quarantines were reported across 55 schools and district departments.

The weekly report also shows that 9,346 students have opted out of wearing face coverings. That represents around 22% of all students.
