An Anthony woman was arrested after she allegedly destroyed items in a kitchen and threatened a victim with a hammer after she had been drinking.
On Wednesday, September 22, a deputy with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in reference to a domestic aggravated assault.
A victim claims that 43-year-old Cheryl McAtee became verbally argumentative and began yelling about her inability to fix a computer. The victim claims that McAtee’s behavior was consistent with previous instances in which McAtee was intoxicated.
According to the report, the argument escalated until McAtee armed herself with a hammer and began destroying the kitchen, smashing counter tops and cabinets and throwing items around the room.
The victim claims McAtee began to advance towards him with the hammer “held above her head as she approached,” according to the report. The victim says he feared the defendant was going to hit him with the hammer and while he was backing up, he called the police.
McAtee was found at a secondary address and while she was being questioned, the deputy noted she had “slurred speech and the odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath,” according to the report.
When asked if she had been drinking, McAtee said she had not. She acted confused and asked “what hammer” when she was questioned about picking up the hammer.
McAtee was arrested and transported to the Marion County Jail on Wednesday evening. She faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
