Belleview woman found using fentanyl, heroin at Ocala Wawa

A 36-year-old Belleview woman was arrested after she was caught allegedly using fentanyl and heroin while in a bathroom at a Wawa in southwest Ocala.

On Tuesday, September 21, an Ocala Police Department officer responded to a call from Wawa staff indicating that a woman was using drugs in the bathroom.

The officer made contact with Karen Brunell inside the bathroom at the gas station, which is located at 4025 SW College Road in Ocala.

According to the report, Brunell was “sweating profusely” and stated she was tired and had been sleeping in the stall. When asked if she had been using drugs in the bathroom, Brunell denied as much and started to act nervous.

The officer says Brunell had “pinpoint pupils” during the investigation and hesitated after she was asked if her purse could be searched.

Brunell was asked again if she had taken drugs and eventually admitted to having used heroin “earlier in the day,” according to the report.

After agreeing to allow the deputy to search her purse, three baggies with white, powder-like substances were uncovered. Two of the substances field tested positive as heroin and the third tested positive as fentanyl.

Brunell was arrested and transported to the Marion County jail. She faces charges of possession of heroin and fentanyl. Her bond is set at $4,000 and she is next due in court on Tuesday, October 26.
