Stephen Douglas Schmidt

 

Stephen SchmidtA Vietnam Veteran, an outdoorsman, and a family man Stephen “Steve” Douglas Schmidt passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 25th, 2021 at his home with his family by his side. Stephen Douglas Schmidt was born in Cynthiana Kentucky on March 6th 1950. Steve was a 1969 graduate of Ocala High School. After high school, Steve joined the United State Marine Corps and served his country in Vietnam from 1969-1971. When he returned from war, Steve met and married the love of his life Carla Barrett on October 15th 1973After high school, Steve joined the United State Marine Corps and served his country in Vietnam from 1969-1971. Steve was employed with CSX Railroad for 27 years as a Signal Maintainer and an active member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen. If Steve wasn’t spending time with his family, you could find him in a tree stand hunting, fishing, or cheering on his Florida Gators. Steve is survived by his wife of 48 years Carla Barrett Schmidt, daughter Melinda “Dawn” Wilkes, daughter Jennifer Leigh Schmidt, and son Alan “Heath” Schmidt. Grandchildren: Jennings McCord Wilkes, Anna Madison Wilkes (Cody Veon), Madeleine Noelle Barnhart, Declan Ronan Shine, and Faith Ann Schmidt as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Steve is predeceased in death by his mother Bird A. Harrison, brother Alan Burns Schmidt, and grandmother Chloe F. Jett. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, September 30, 2021, at 1:00 PM at the Highland Memorial Park, 1515 NE 3rd Street, Ocala, FL with the Rev Scott Stanland officiating.
