Amazing Arthropods exhibit opening at Discovery Center on Saturday

A new Amazing Arthropods exhibit is opening at the Discovery Center this weekend.

The Discovery Center’s newest exhibit, Amazing Arthropods, will be on display beginning Saturday, October 9 through Thursday, December 30 at the Discovery Center, which is located at 701 NE Sanchez Avenue.

The exhibit is open Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Children will have a chance to learn about a variety of different insects at hands-on stations. There will be a live bug zoo for viewing that includes a Malaysian Forest Scorpion, a Goliath Bird-Eating Tarantula, millipedes and several more arthropods.

Other activities include fossilized arthropods to examine, an insect creator station, crustacean claw game, metamorphosis puzzle game, butterfly dress up area and a larger than life beehive.

Discovery Center staff will be implementing increased cleaning protocols for the facility. All guests are encouraged to wear a face covering while inside buildings and adhere to a physical distance of six feet apart. Hand sanitizing stations are available in all areas of the facility.

General admission to the Discovery Center is $8 per person or $28 for a family of four. Annual memberships are also available for individuals and families.

By reservation only, StarLab Planetarium shows are held on Saturdays and tickets are $30 per ten-person group. Guests are encouraged to call ahead to book a reservation time for the planetarium. An alternative Planetarium-like show, NASA Solar System Exploration, is also available for a $3 add-on to the price of general admission.
