A Gainesville man faces multiple felony charges after he led police on a high-speed chase through Ocala in a stolen vehicle with a juvenile passenger.
On Monday, October 4, a deputy with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office was patrolling along NE Jacksonville Road when he noticed a gray 2018 Nissan sedan that was confirmed stolen out of Osceola County.
The report states that the deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the vehicle traveled through a Circle K parking lot and north onto NE Jacksonville Road at speeds exceeding 100 MPH.
The report notes that a 15-year-old passenger was riding in the vehicle.
After a pursuit, the deputy attempted a precision immobilization technique which was unsuccessful. Another deputy patrolling the area deployed stop sticks which took out three of the vehicle’s four tires.
The vehicle came to a stop at the 14000 block of NE Jacksonville Road. According to the report, Gilmore exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
A third deputy on scene was able to catch Gilmore and place him under arrest.
Gilmore was transported to Marion County Jail where he faces three felony charges, including fleeing and eluding police and child abuse without great bodily harm. He is currently being held on $26,000 bond. No court date has been set.
