Ocala City Council members approved an over $870,000 contract extension for security services throughout Ocala on Tuesday.
During the council’s regular meeting this week, members approved a three-year contract extension with VIP Security & Investigations, LLC to provide citywide security services.
The estimated cost of the initial three-year term is $870,416. The contract extension runs until September 30, 2024, and may be renewed for up to three additional one-year periods.
A total of ten firms were in consideration for this contract and VIP was unanimously selected in July after a committee determined it was the best firm to continue providing security services for the city.
According to city records, the scope of services covers city hall, the city complex and customer service office, the downtown parking garage, and ad-hoc city events. The contract also provides for 200 hours of armed coverage and 56 hours of unarmed coverage on a weekly basis.
At last night’s meeting, Ocala Assistant Director of Cyber and Physical Security Christopher Ramos stated that in the last year, VIP generated 100 incident reports, issued 1,405 parking violations, had 14,183 visitor interactions, discovered 8 firearms at city hall, patrolled 5,885 miles, and performed 37 escorts to city hall.
