OPD hosting ‘Cold Case’ homicide investigation course at St. Leo’s University

Ocala Police Department is hosting an eight-week homicide investigation course that is open to the public at Saint Leo University beginning next week.

The program will take place at the Ocala Education Center, located at 1930 SW 38th Avenue, and is open to both registered students and the general public. The cost to participate for non-students is $235.

According to OPD, participants will be presented with real cold case files from an OPD homicide that has not been solved.

Participants will view the files to evaluate victimology, crime scenes, evidence collection, interviews, scientific laboratory reports, leads, and suspects. Crime scene photos and physical evidence will also be examined.

The course is taught by OPD Captain Charles Eades, a Saint Leo University alumnus. Classes will be held each Monday from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., beginning on October 25 and ending on December 19.

For more information or to register, visit the Saint Leo University website or call 352-671-3391.
