Marion County officials will declare October as Cybersecurity Awareness Month next week.
During the Tuesday, October 19 meeting of the Marion County Board of County Commissioners, officials will proclaim the month of October as Cybersecurity Awareness Month.
The proclamation recognizes the importance of cybersecurity and the impact it has on everyone’s collective safety and privacy. It suggests that an increasing number of people use mobile and web-based devices, which can become susceptible to viruses, phishing, malware, financial loss, and loss of sensitive data.
Financial services, transportation, utilities, health care, emergency response systems, and other industries are becoming increasingly more reliant on information systems for support, making proper cybersecurity measures all the more vital, according to the proclamation.
Marion County says the goal of Cybersecurity Awareness Month is to educate citizens and businesses about cybersecurity, and to put that knowledge into practice to better protect them in their homes, schools, and workplaces.
