Ocala man breaks into truck inside garage, steals money for medical marijuana license

A 24-year-old Ocala man was arrested after breaking into a truck parked inside of a garage and stealing cash that he said he was going to use to purchase a medical marijuana license.

On Sunday, October 10 around 9:30 p.m., a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a residence along Southwest 138th place in Ocala after reports of a burglary.

A victim advised that a man, later identified as Cody Edward Pruitt, broke into the garage attached to the victim’s residence shortly after midnight.

The victim and his wife were asleep when Pruitt, already inside the garage, entered the truck that belongs to the victim’s wife.

Pruitt took $85 in cash out of the center console of the truck.

The victim’s wife reviewed their home security footage and observed Pruitt entering the garage where her truck was parked. When Pruitt left the garage, he grabbed the door handles of another vehicle parked in the driveway, but all the doors were locked.

Deputies reviewed the victim’s security footage, and one of the deputies quickly recognized Pruitt from a previous case where he was also captured on a security camera wearing the same outfit.

Pruitt was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail. A deputy showed him the security footage, and Pruitt admitted to breaking into the garage and stealing the money.

According to Pruitt, he was looking for cigarettes and money, and he was trying to save up money to obtain a medical marijuana prescription.

He is currently being held on $15,000 bond, and he has upcoming court dates on November 6 and November 9, both at 9:00 a.m., according to jail records.
