Marion County reports COVID-19 cases, vaccinations continue to decline

According to the Florida Department of Health, the COVID-19 weekly report for Friday, October 15, to Thursday, October 21 shows another decrease from previous weeks.

During the week, the county reported 252 positive COVID-19 cases, an average of 36 new cases each day. That average number is a 19% decrease from the previous week, when the county reported an average of nearly 45 cases a day.

The number of cases continues to decline. This week’s total number of cases is around 40% lower than the daily totals the county experienced during the summer spike, when more than 400 cases were reported each day for multiple weeks.

In total last week, 674 residents were administered vaccines, a decrease of 62 from the previous week.

The report shows that around 63% of eligible residents, or 206,178, are currently vaccinated in Marion County. All residents ages 12 and older are considered eligible.
