Marion County resident shares frustrations of child being removed from home

To the Editor:

Marion County Child Protective Services removed my child out of my home on April 16, 2021. I have complied since my case was opened. We are now in October 2021 and the Department of Children and Families (DCF) has let my case slip through the cracks.

They will not give my child back. My child had told DCF and my lawyer that she wants to come home, and DCF is constantly lying. My lawyer has filed for dismiss of the case and my home study was approved. They also have all my documentation showing completion of their requirements.

Every time I go to court, DCF has not completed their paperwork. They prolong my case and I keep getting more court dates. I want to share my story because Marion County CPS system is corrupt and they are keeping my child from me. I am a mother of six children and only one was taken away. I am a single working mother, I have no police record, I’ve  never been to jail in my life, I am not a drug addict, and I give back to my community by volunteering with Interfaith in Reddick on Wednesdays for the past 3 years.

DCF is keeping a family apart. My children and I have suffered emotionally and physically. My daughter that was taken from me now has epilepsy due to stress, and anxiety from this ordeal with CPS. She had a fullblown grand mal seizure last month in September. DCF is not doing anything to have my daughter come home.
