Out of Darkness suicide prevention walk at Sholom Park in Ocala

Sholom Park, which is located in southwest Ocala, will play host to an upcoming suicide prevention walk this weekend.

The Ocala Out of the Darkness Walk will take place on Saturday, October 30, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the park, which is located at 7110 SW 80th Avenue.

The event provides community, connection, healing, and hope for survivors of suicide loss and those with lived experience, according to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

“By registering, you are joining a strong community united in an effort to fight suicide while showing up for yourself, recognizing and honoring those you love, raising awareness, educating communities, supporting one another, and sharing hope,” reads a post from the AFSP website.

As of Monday, nearly $10,000 has been raised of the organization’s goal of $20,000.

There is no cost to participate, but participants are encouraged to raise a minimum of $150 to help support AFSP’s work to stop suicide.
