Anthony resident says county needs ‘bigger facility’ for mental health treatment

To the Editor:

What is wrong with this picture? A man shoots and kills his neighbor because his cat walked on the killer’s property. Not to mention he would walk around the neighborhood brandishing a firearm and threatening other people about their pets. Why couldn’t anyone pick up the phone and contact the police about this? Obviously, this man needed help. Lots of it. But it’s too late now. Isn’t it?

Then there is the lady that threatened an Ocala Police Department officer. These people need psychological help. The population of Marion County, as of 2 years ago, was about 366,000-plus, and I believe the only facility that could help disturbed people can only hold about 30 people at most. This is not enough. With people doing things like running around naked or killing people over a cat, well, I think this county needs help. A bigger facility is needed and it is not a jail cell. Not for everyone.
