Man facing vehicular homicide, DUI manslaughter charges after crash claims life of 80-year-old woman

An 80-year-old Chiefland woman was killed in a crash on Friday evening while traveling along State Road 320.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol,  the woman, who was from Chiefland, was traveling west on State Road 320 in an SUV around 9:15 p.m. on Friday when her vehicle was struck from behind by a sedan being driven by a 56-year-old Chiefland man.

After the collision, both vehicles travelled onto the north shoulder. The woman was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

The man driving the sedan was arrested at the scene and charged with vehicular homicide, DUI manslaughter, and two counts of DUI property damage, according to the FHP report.

The names of those involved in the crash were not released, per FHP policy.
