Family Dollar Store seeking city approval to sell alcohol at southwest Ocala location

A new Family Dollar Store location in Ocala is seeking a permit from the city to sell alcohol for off-premise consumption.

During the next regular meeting of the Ocala City Council on Tuesday, November 2, members will vote on whether to approve a permit that will allow the Family Dollar Store located at 3930 SW 42nd Street #105 to sell alcohol for consumption off premises.

The Family Dollar Store location will be open Monday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., according to city records.

With the council’s approval, Family Dollar Store would be authorized to sell beer, ale, and wine in sealed containers for off-premises consumption between the hours of 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.

There are no schools, churches, or day care centers within a 500-foot radius of the store’s location. Additionally, there are three other establishments that sell alcoholic beverages within that same 500-foot distance, including Sam’s Club, Tijuana Flats, and Gator’s Dockside.

The Ocala City Council regularly meets on the first and third Tuesday of every month at 5 p.m. at the Ocala City Hall, which is located at 110 SE Watula Avenue in Ocala.
