A 39-year-old Ocala woman was arrested after more than twenty instances of theft were discovered at the Walmart where she worked.
On Tuesday, November 2 at around 10:45 p.m., a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrived at the Walmart store located at 9570 SW Highway 200.
The store’s loss prevention manager stated that an employee, Yaleska Isabel Rodriguez Colon, was detained for stealing items from the store.
According to the loss prevention manager, Rodriguez Colon was under investigation for improperly scanning lower priced items at the self-checkout terminals, as well as hiding some items without attempting to scan them.
The deputy was provided with surveillance video and receipts that showed over 20 instances of fraudulent transactions between December 23, 2020 and October 21, 2021, resulting in a loss of around $343.00 for the store.
Rodriguez Colon spoke with the deputy and admitted to the fraudulent transactions. She stated that she needed the items for her daughter and did not have the money to pay for them.
Rodriguez Colon was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail where she faces a felony charge for fraud.
She is out on bond and a court date has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
