New, pirate-themed bar hosting adult spelling bee benefitting Marion County Literacy Council

Adults in the Ocala area will have a chance to show off their spelling skills next week while also giving back to a local nonprofit organization.

On Wednesday, November 17, the Adult Spelling Bee will take place at Mutiny, located at 46 S Magnolia Avenue in downtown Ocala.

The event begins at 7 p.m. and will end once a champion is crowned.

A total of 30 contestant spots are available, and 10 alternates will also be needed, according to event organizers.

There is a $20 entry fee payable in cash on the day of the event, and all contestants will receive two complimentary drinks before the spelling bee begins.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Marion County Literacy Council, which helps adult learners reach their individual learning goals.

To register, send a message to event organizers, The Culture Curators, as spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

All contestants will be notified with further instructions if they are chosen to participate in the event.

For more information or to make a donation to the nonprofit, visit the Marion County Literacy Council website.
