Marion County firefighters are reminding the public to be safe during the Thanksgiving holiday.
In a social media post, Marion County Fire Rescue highlighted the dangers and hazards that can occur when cooking both indoors and outdoors.
MCFR demonstrated what can happen when deep frying a turkey if proper safety measures are not taken.
The following tips were offered by MCFR to avoid this scenario and to keep county residents safe on Thanksgiving:
- Never leave a fryer unattended.
- Never use a fryer in the rain or snow.
- Keep the fryer on a level surface, far away from any structure.
- Keep children and pets away from the fryer.
- Do not overfill the fryer with oil, since too much oil is a recipe for disaster.
