Local police department offers safety tips for holiday shoppers

The Ocala Police Department wants residents and their families to remain safe during the holiday season.

With Christmas just a month away, OPD is offering the following tips so that everyone in the community can stay safe while shopping.

Purses and wallets should be kept close to the body, and never leave purses or wallets unattended in a shopping cart.

Be aware of the surroundings when in a parking lot. Keep an eye out for other vehicles and suspicious activity.

Keep the vehicle locked. Remove all presents, money, and other valuables from inside the vehicle, and never leave important items in plain sight.

If anyone sees a crime in progress, call 9-1-1. For any non-emergencies, call OPD’s non-emergency line at 352-369-7070.
