A pedestrian was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer on U.S. Highway 301 near SE 175th Street in Citra.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol’s incident report, the accident occurred today at around 1 p.m. when a 66-year-old Sebring man was traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 301 in a tractor-trailer.
A pickup truck being driven by a 31-year-old Hawthorne man was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 301.
A 40-year-old Citra man was walking along the east shoulder of U.S. Highway 301. According to the report, he suddenly darted into the northbound lanes of the road and stepped in front of the tractor-trailer.
The tractor-trailer struck the pedestrian, veered left into the southbound lanes, and collided with the pickup truck.
The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on the scene.
Both drivers, who were the sole occupants of their respective vehicles, were uninjured.
The names of the individuals involved in the accident were not released, per FHP policy.
