FDOT looking to improve over two miles of sidewalks in Ocala

The Citywide Sidewalk Improvements project is aiming to improve over two miles of sidewalks in Ocala.

The project will include the construction of nearly 2.3 miles of four-foot-wide to six-foot-wide sidewalks to fill in the gaps at various spots throughout the city.

The locations for sidewalk improvements include:

  • NW 7th Street from NW Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue to NW 6th Terrace (both sides).
  • NE 21st Street from NE 36th Avenue to NE 38th Terrace (north side).
  • SW 3rd Avenue from SW 2nd Street to SW 3rd Street (east side).
  • SW 3rd Street from SW 2nd Avenue to SW 1st Avenue (north side).
  • SW 1st Avenue from SW 2nd Street to SW 3rd Street (west side).
  • SW 1st Avenue from SW 3rd Street to SW 5th Street (east side).
  • SW 5th Street from SW 2nd Avenue to SW 1st Avenue (north side).
  • SE 24th Street from SE 36th Avenue to SE 32nd Avenue (both sides).
  • SW 32nd Avenue from State Road 200 to SW 34th Avenue (south side).

In addition, nearly a quarter of a mile (1,130 feet) of SW 32nd Avenue from State Road 200 to SW 34th Avenue will be resurfaced.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is undertaking this project as part of its five-year Construction Engineering and Inspection work program for a total cost of nearly $340,000.

The city is being asked to pay a 15% contingency deposit for the project in the amount of $50,873, and has until March 18, 2022, to pay this amount to FDOT.

This matter will go before the Ocala City Council as a consent agenda item for its next meeting on Tuesday, December 7. The council members will vote on adopting a resolution that would approve funding of the contingency deposit for this sidewalk improvement project.

The Ocala City Council meets at 5 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of every month at the Ocala City Hall, which is located at 110 SE Watula Avenue in downtown Ocala.
