A 41-year-old Ocala man was arrested after allegedly strangling and punching a female victim.
On Sunday, November 21, an Ocala Police Department officer responded to a NW 3rd Street residence in Ocala in reference to a battery.
A female victim stated that she had been battered by her boyfriend, Santonio T. Smith.
Earlier in the day, the victim stated that she was staying with Smith at a residence belonging to one of his relatives when he allegedly strangled her.
She did not tell the officer how she was strangled. The officer noticed faint marks and fresh scratches around the victim’s neck.
Later in the evening, at around 10 p.m., the victim stated that she was in the room and asked Smith what the word “meekness” meant. He responded by saying, “Leave me the (expletive) alone.”
She stated that the was going to do an online search for the definition when Smith allegedly walked up to her and punched her in the eye.
The victim walked out of the room and told Smith, “Come out the door to get this (expletive) whooping.” When he did not come out of the room, she called law enforcement.
According to the OPD report, the victim’s left eye was completely swollen shut.
Smith was located inside the residence, and he denied laying a hand on the victim. He claimed that the altercation was strictly verbal.
Based on the evidence, Smith was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail. He was later released on $7,500 bond and is facing a felony charge for battery by strangulation along with a misdemeanor battery charge.
A court date has been scheduled on December 21 at 9 a.m. according to jail records.
