An interactive weekly program for local homeschooled children is returning to southeast Ocala next month.
Marion County Parks and Recreation is hosting its Homeschool Wednesdays program beginning on Wednesday, January 5 at Brick City Adventure Park (1211 SE 22nd Road).
The weekly event includes Art and PE programs, and both programs are separated into two age groups: 5 to 8 and 9 to 12.
The art program features a different theme for each month and all necessary materials are included:
- January (“Poured Polar Aurora”): glow in the dark paintings with added overlay of black silhouettes.
- February (“Burroughs on Burlap”): printmaking on burlap.
- March (“Venetian Volto Masks”): Carnival of Venice, 13th Century mask decorating.
- April (“Sand Sketching”): Resurgent Victorian art known as Marmotinto where sand becomes the medium suspended in glue.
Children participating in the PE program will get to play a different sport each month: kickball (January), volleyball (February), track and field (March), and flag football (April). Equipment will be provided for each participant.
On each Wednesday from January 5 to April 27, children ages 9 to 12 will participate in the activities from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., and children ages 5 to 8 will take part in the fun from 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
There is a $20 fee per month for the art program and a $12 monthly fee for the PE program.
