A 19-year-old Ocala man was arrested after allegedly firing multiple shots at Parkside Apartments in July of 2021.
On Thursday, July 8, 2021, at around 3:10 p.m., Ocala Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting at the apartment complex located at 621 NW 2nd Street.
Upon arrival, officers located a total of 12 shell casings, both .40 and .45 caliber, in the intersection of NW 4th Street and NW 6th Terrace.
According to witnesses, the occupants of a black Dodge Charger with dark tinted windows were likely responsible for the shooting.
No injuries were reported, but at least 12 rounds were fired from the vehicle into a heavily populated apartment complex.
An OPD detective was assigned to the case and reviewed surveillance footage from the apartment complex. At 2:48 p.m., the detective observed several children playing in the grassy area between the buildings where the shooting occurred.
At 2:50 p.m., a newer model black Dodge Charger was observed traveling eastbound on NW 4th Street and it slowed down just prior to NW 6th Terrace. The rear window rolled down and shots were fired from the front and rear passenger side.
The vehicle was observed turning left onto NW 6th Terrace and out of the camera’s frame. According to the OPD report, it was clear to the detective that two firearms were discharged from the vehicle and several people were present within 1,000 feet of the vehicle when the shots were fired.
Another OPD detective identified a 2019 Dodge Charger that may have been in the area at the time of the shooting.
On Friday, August 6, 2021, an OPD officer located the 2019 Dodge Charger and conducted a traffic stop. The officer observed dark window tint and a K-9 officer detected the presence of narcotics.
The officer told the occupants of the vehicle to step outside, and the interior of the vehicle was searched. A Glock 30 .45 caliber handgun was located underneath the passenger seat where Ky’Shaun L. Deavila had been sitting.
During an interview with the officer, Deavila admitted that the handgun was his, but he denied any involvement in the apartment complex shooting.
Deavila’s handgun was recovered as evidence. The handgun was later test fired and the shell casings were sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for testing.
On Monday, December 27, 2021, the test results were forwarded to OPD, and it confirmed that the .45 caliber shell casings recovered from the apartment complex matched the shell casings from Deavila’s handgun.
The officer searched Deavila’s criminal history and discovered that he was convicted of a felony in 2016.
Deavila was arrested on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 and he was transported to Marion County Jail where he is currently being held on $35,000 bond. He is facing felony charges for firing a weapon from a vehicle and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
A court date has been scheduled on Tuesday, February 1 at 9 a.m., according to jail records.
