Marion County Parks and Recreation seeks approval for Heagy Burry Park improvements

Marion County Parks and Recreation is seeking approval from county commissioners for an agreement that would bring upgrades to Heagy Burry Park.

The county’s Parks and Recreation department has requested to enter into a cost share grant agreement with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) for various improvements to Heagy Burry Park (5040 NW 191st Place in Reddick) and its boat ramp.

These improvements would increase boating access and accessibility to Orange Lake in Marion County. County staff feels that the improvements would enhance the local community by providing a premier venue for outdoor recreation, sport fishing, and tournaments.

Under the proposed agreement, FWC would compensate the county with $969,264 or 53.1% of the total project cost, whichever is less. The county would be responsible for any remaining project costs.

The matter will be presented to the commissioners for approval during the Marion County Board of County Commissioners regular meeting on Tuesday, January 18.

The Marion County Board of County Commissioners meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month at the McPherson Governmental Campus Auditorium (601 SE 25th Avenue).
