The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents to be aware of scam calls that claim to be from a local detective.
According to MCSO, scammers have been calling county residents with a fake message from a ‘Detective McGavin with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.’
In the message, the scammers claim that a warrant is out for the call recipient’s arrest, and $1,000 is requested in Green Dot cards.
MCSO will never call residents with a request to send money to purge a warrant.
Anyone who receives this call should hang up the phone.
