The Ocala Police Department is reporting that no serious injuries were sustained in Monday’s three-vehicle accident that involved a police officer.
According to an eyewitness, at around 5:15 p.m., just moments before the collision, an OPD patrol car appeared to run the stop sign at the intersection of W Silver Springs Boulevard and SW 23rd Avenue without its emergency lights engaged.
Ocala Fire Rescue’s Engine 1, Tower 1, Rescues 1 and 4, Battalion Chief 11, and a Safety Officer responded to the scene of the accident.
Upon arrival, OFR crews observed a patrol car with damage on both the driver’s and passenger’s sides, an SUV with heavy front-end damage, and a minivan with moderate front-end damage.
The crews used hydraulic tools to remove the patrol car’s front doors to extricate the officer, and the officer was trauma-alerted to the hospital.
The driver of the SUV was also transported to the hospital.
The accident is currently being investigated by the Ocala Police Department.
